I want something fun that everyone will participate in. I do not want to just ask people for money I was wondering if anybody had ideas that will make people excited to give out a few bucks
Rent a ballroom in a local hotel for $400. Hire a local band for $250. Buy some balloons. Charge $15 at the door and you can easily make $1,500. If you sell chips and soda, you will make more. Be brave. The hotel and the band will wait for payment.

Anything with food will get you money.
Realistically, you could have the girls do burlesque dancing and sell tickets to that, I think you would make a lot off the frats.
You could do a car wash, bowling, etc.

I would recommend visiting http://www.cellitused.com then go around to your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors and collect as many cell phones as possible then go to the site and sell them. They pay up to $200 for working cell phones. It is just an idea.

There are a bunch of different directions you could go here. I'll give you a few:
1) Sporting event that frats, other sororities, and/or other students can compete in. Local companies can donate food, prizes, and t-shirts. The teams can either pay an entry fee OR write a certain amount of fundraising letters to their family and family friends back home. Examples: volleyball, hockey, soccer, flag football, basketball, etc.
2) Food sales. Self-explanatory. A lot of chapters at my school targeted the drunks on the weekends late at night (but this has pros and cons). Examples: nachos, hot dogs, spaghetti, grilled cheese, etc.
3) Collaboration: This can get creative but it's GREAT and gets more people involved. You can collaborate with another chapter or a fraternity and come up with something cool - dance-a-thon, week of service, etc. It's great for Greek relations too.
4) Alumnae event: If you have an active alum chapter, see if they want to team up with your OR hold an event for them - you can include raffle items, silent auction, wine tasting, etc. A chapter at my school did a great job with this, but we never really got it to work.
Others: penny wars, creating contests amongst the Greek houses, seeing if your charity has any events/strategies that you can get involved in.
