I’m running for philanthropy chair for my sorority, and I need some really great ideas to make my campaign more appealing. So far I came up with "AOPi Palooza", which is an outdoor music festival featuring local and student bands. My sorority name is Alpha Omicron Pi, AOPi, Alpha O, etc. if you want to play on the name…it’s not necessary though. Any ideas are much appreciated! Thanks!

There hasn’t been much info on the movie out yet, but my guess is that this happens either between MGS1 (2005) and the beginning of MGS2 (2007) or between the end of MGS2 (2009) and MGS4 (2014). Since Snake still looks young in the movie, I’d say the first is correct. I mean, I don’t even know if they made this movie to fit in MGS’s canon storyline or to be a spin-off like the Ac!d series, so I’m just guessing. xD
They even got Aoife Ferry, the woman who sings “The Best is Yet To Come” during the credits of the first MGS to sing in the credits of the movie! O.O HOW AWESOME IS THAT, UH?
Anyway, can’t wait for it, really. I’ll be refreshing their site every five minutes on the 27th. xD

We finally introduced the next generation of Peerys to the Peery Foundation. We spent a great day learning about philanthropy, social entrepreneurship, and some of the amazing work that people are doing in our community. There were no parents allowed so we had to at least make this video for the next board meeting! Best quote of the day from one of the kids: ‘Guys, this is serious. We can’t give them a grant because they have candy in the lobby!”

Ummm. That’s not really what Social Darwinism means. Social Darwinism is a framework that claims that ideas and institutions compete, and survive based on criteria of fitness (and implicitly comes to the conclusion that criteria of fitness are far from obvious). An example from the Social Darwinist framework: urban legend memes (like the story about the lady who put her poodle in the the microwave to dry it off after a walk, and it exploded) that examines the characteristics that allow some urban legends to persist over decades.
Despite the fact that these storis are not true (poodles don’t actually explode when you microwave them), something about these stories causes them to propogate and survive at the expense of stories that are actually true, and far more useful. A Social Darwinist would examine the criteria of fitness that allows this story to replicate and thrive whereas others don’t.
I believe in Social Darwinism; and also believe in philanthropy.
